Personality

INTP

INTPs are pensive, analytical folks. They may venture so deeply into thought as to seem detached, and often actually are oblivious to the world around them.

Precise about their descriptions, INTPs will often correct others (or be sorely tempted to) if the shade of meaning is a bit off. While annoying to the less concise, this fine discrimination ability gives INTPs so inclined a natural advantage as, for example, grammarians and linguists.

INTPs are relatively easy-going and amenable to almost anything until their principles are violated, about which they may become outspoken and inflexible. They prefer to return, however, to a reserved albeit benign ambiance, not wishing to make spectacles of themselves.

A major concern for INTPs is the haunting sense of impending failure. They spend considerable time second-guessing themselves. The open-endedness (from Perceiving) conjoined with the need for competence (NT) is expressed in a sense that one’s conclusion may well be met by an equally plausible alternative solution, and that, after all, one may very well have overlooked some critical bit of data. An INTP arguing a point may very well be trying to convince himself as much as his opposition. In this way INTPs are markedly different from INTJs, who are much more confident in their competence and willing to act on their convictions.

Mathematics is a system where many INTPs love to play, similarly languages, computer systems–potentially any complex system. INTPs thrive on systems. Understanding, exploring, mastering, and manipulating systems can overtake the INTP’s conscious thought. This fascination for logical wholes and their inner workings is often expressed in a detachment from the environment, a concentration where time is forgotten and extraneous stimuli are held at bay. Accomplishing a task or goal with this knowledge is secondary.

INTPs and Logic — One of the tipoffs that a person is an INTP is her obsession with logical correctness. Errors are not often due to poor logic — apparent faux pas in reasoning are usually a result of overlooking details or of incorrect context.

Fears:

sunlight
the thought of drowning
reliving the past
betrayal
giving up

Habits:

tapping out a beat with his foot
smoking cigarettes (Marlboro reds)
rubbing his hands on his pants
apologizing
tugging on right ear when feeling awkward

Wants to:

make amends
go to church
eat a pie by himself
understand
swim a mile

Alignment
A chaotic good character acts as his conscience directs him with little regard for what others expect of him. He makes his own way, but he’s kind and benevolent. He believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations. He hates it when people try to intimidate others and tell them what to do. He follows his own moral compass, which, although good, may not agree with that of society.

Chaotic goods believe that freedom is the only means by which each creature can achieve true satisfaction and happiness. Law, order, social forms, and anything else which tends to restrict individual freedom is wrong, and each individual is capable of achieving self-realization and prosperity through himself. These characters believe that life has no grand plan, but each creature’s spirit is essentially noble and good. Each being must follow his own conscience. By performing good acts the individual can hope to alleviate the suffering and anguish of others, whether caused by random or structured acts.A chaotic good character will keep his word to those who are not evil and will lie only to evil-doers. He will never attack an unarmed foe and will never harm an innocent. He will not use torture to extract information or for pleasure, but he may “rough up” someone to get information. He will never kill for pleasure, only in self-defense or in the defense of others. A chaotic good character will never use poison. He will help those in need and he prefers to work alone, as he values his freedom. He does not respond well to higher authority, is distrustful of organizations, and will disregard the law in his fight against evil. He will never betray a family member, comrade, or friend.

A chaotic good being…

Is not concerned with the desires of family members.

Values flexible relationships with romantic partners.

Considers himself above the law.

Finds most people to be narrow-minded and inflexible.

Believes those who seek to rule others are, by nature, corrupt.

Seeks to undermine the authority figures of his community or nation.

Finds the legal procedures of his nation corrupt.

Believes luck determines wealth.

Will break any contract when he feels like it.

Will not want to disappoint his family.

Will support their family even if it means personal discomfort.

Will never betray a friend and enjoys having close friends.

Considers the needs of the community in personal life.

Will give his life in defense of his community.

Will take actions to aid others during times of crisis, even if unprofitable to do so.

Believes everyone should be treated fairly and kindly.

Feels guilt when he commits a wrongdoing and will seek to right his wrong.

Uses wealth to help others who are less fortunate.

They named him Arián Edelmiro de Montejo.

It was a strong name, fit for a warrior, a Crusader if he had been born five-hundred years earlier… It was the name of a future conquistador. Born to a Catholic family an Madrid, Spain, Arián grew up near a monastery, and God, and his Lord Jesus Christ, was his life. But this is how it was with all young boys back then, in 1500. Especially if they are born on Sunday, the day of Our Lord.

Arián loved God with all his heart, and every day, he would pray to Him, asking for protection for his family, and friends, but never himself. “Pater noster, qui es in caelis: sanctificetur Nomen Tuum; adveniat Regnum Tuum; fiat voluntas Tua, sicut in caelo, et in terra. Panem nostrum cotidianum da nobis hodie; et dimitte nobis debita nostra, Sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris; et ne nos inducas in tentationem; sed libera nos a Malo,” he would say, daily, hands clutched over his head, face downturned.

He never thought God would turn His back on him.

He was wrong.

14 March 1516

Sixteen-year-old Arián had just heard the news from a beggar on the street corner. Charles V had been announced king of Castile and of Aragon jointly with his mother, Joanna. For the first time in the history of Spain, the crowns of Castile and Aragon were united under one king. With bated breath and aching ribs, Arián ran into his near ram-shackle house, nearly running into his mother, Isabella. “Madre, madre!” he cried, an excited, boyish grin on his face. “Finalmente! Charles V was announced king with his mother!”Isabella nearly dropped the fruit she held in her dress, blinking. She hesitated for a moment, looking at her teenage son, before a grin pulled at the corners of her lips, which she suppressed. Instead, she went on with her business, letting the fruit roll onto the wooden table before her, issuing a nonchalant, “Oh?”

Arián didn’t understand why his mother wasn’t excited. Ecstatic even! Finally, Spain was pulling under one ruler, the ruler that would do the greatest good for her. Charles V, later to be named the Holy Roman Emperor. His family were one of the few that were excited for this news – most were uneasy. Until then, the monarchy was a mere contract with the people… It was well known that Charles V was different. Under his rule, it would become more absolute. But Arián knew in his heart that this was what was best for his mother-country. God trusted in Charles V.

Two years passed, and Arián kept his devotion to God and the Emperor, despite the rough times they were going through. Heavy taxation, oppression, being ignored in the government rankings – the Castilians grew resistant. Many asked “Why?” Why was it their tax dollars going to fight the wars abroad? Why was it their lives that were being taken to fight against savages? But Arián understood, and the urge to go see the others across the ocean, that they were fighting and exploring, was great. When he heard that a man, Hernán Cortés, was going on an expedition to the New World… he instantly seeked him out. He learned the reasons. In 1518, Velázquez commanded Cortés tosecure the center of Mexico for colonization. At the very last minute, he revoked his charter… But Cortés and his men – eighteen-year-old Arián among them – went anyway in February, 1519.

While there, he wrote in a journal.

March 1519:
Earlier, we met a man. Jeronimo de Aguilar is what he calls himself, and he is a Franciscan priest. We are in a strange land, God, with tan-skinned peoples and a foreign tongue. Jeronimo de Aguilar understands this language, and translates for us. God, today we claimed this land for the Spanish crown. It is a proud day, O Lord, and I feel as if I am bursting at the seems in happiness. I am a no one, O God, and yet I am making history with Cortés. Thank you, Lord, for giving me this chance.

Unknown 1519
I lose track of the days, Lord, but I know it doesn’t matter as long as You are by my side. Earlier this week, we stopped in Trinidad to recruit more soldiers. Are numbers are strong, Lord, and I am proud to be among them. Today, we fought in a foreign place called Tabasco. We won, Lord, with You protecting us, and we received twenty young women and all were converted to follow Your Light. One of the women’s name is La Malinche. She is very beautiful, Lord, and fluent in another of these odd languages. She and Cortés are very close and she helps us to speak to the natives here. I have only spoken to her once, Lord, but she seemed to truly love You.

August 1519
This past month has been very active, interesting… exciting. We took over a city called Veracruz, and Cortés claimed it in the name of Charles V. He spoke of someone called Moctezuma and how he would not meet with him… Cortés is a very determined man, Lord, and today we made it to Tenochtitlan. It is a grand city, O Father, a grand city, indeed. On the way, we made alliances with the natives of this land, and then spoke to Moctezuma. When Cortés spoke to us of what went on, I was angered. They didn’t accept our offer of peace, under You, Our Father who art in Heaven, and Charles V. Tomorrow, we march again.

October 1519
We, along with 3,000 Tlaxcalteca, marched to another large city. Forgive me, O Father, for I have sinned. In Cholula… We killed. Massacred. Together, our combined forces murdered thousands of unarmed members of the nobility who were gathered in the main square, and then partially burned the city down. Please, Father, I beg of you, this one time only, receive me and take this death from my soul. It weighs me down at night. I cannot sleep. Forgive me, O Lord. Forgive me.

8 November 1519
Let this day be known to the world, Lord! Today, we were peacefully received by Moctezuma II. He let us into his city, into the very heart of it, and lavished us in gold and gifts. They have yet to be converted to Your Way, O Lord, but please, be patient. You will have Your children in Your hands once more, Lord. I am sure of it.

April 1520
O Lord… Lord, my Master, my Father, take me into thine arms and forgive me, for I have sinned. Earlier this week, Cortés heard word of another fleet in Mexico, sent to try and overtake him. Pánfilo de Narváez was his name, Lord, and he didn’t understand our reasons for being here. We are here for You! For Charles V, our Emperor! He didn’t understand, so Cortés had to teach him. Once beaten, he convinced the rest of Narváez’s men to join him, and went back to chaos.Lord, please save my soul. Pedro de Alvarado instructed us to kill once more. I had to listen, Lord, he was my better. We killed in the Main Temple, a Holy place for these people. We murdered. I killed a little girl, Lord, and my heart wrenched as she cried for her life, for her family. And then I killed her. Her screams haunt me, Lord. Please, take this shadow from my heart!

1 July 1520
I am scribbling this, Lord, because it hurts so much to write. I am in pain. I need You, O Father. Let me tell You what happened. Today, Moctezuma was stoned to death by his own subjects. We had to flee, Lord. We had to run like rats from a cat. We managed to escape Tenochtitlán via the causeway, but we lost many of our allies and men. It was raining. I couldn’t see my hands. A savage stabbed me in the ribs with a sharpened bone, and I ache. I curl here, on the muddy ground, and I weep. I weep for those that we lost, for that which we could have gained, and because I know there will be more bloodshed soon. Forgive me, Father.

July 1520
These people are strange, Father. Dark-skinned sorts, who speak in a tongue I don’t recognize. They took me in, Lord, and for this I am grateful. They have no names, only sounds, feral, dark. I have lost track of the days. I kill for my food, I kill Your beautiful Creatures, O Lord, so I can live. It’s hard staying here, but I am slowly starting to understand them. I think they believe in You, Lord, just… they are seeing You in a different Form. Come to us, O Father, be our Light in this time of darkness. I need You.

Unknown 1521
I am learning their language, Father. I am learning their customs. I have spent a year here, and they believe in You as well, just in the form of many gods. I can speak to them and understand what they say, and am learning how to hunt. It is getting late in the year. The trees are changing colour, and it is beautiful here. I miss Spain, though. Sometimes, I hear Spanish words in the cities. I hear of Cortés, and his men. They… they took down a whole empire, Lord. The Aztecs have fallen. Our small patch of Aztecs are intact, but probably not for long. They will come after us, Lord. I am scared.

Unknown 1523
It hurts, O Lord. We.. we got into a fight today, with a neighbouring clan. Just like before, these men stabbed me near my right ribs, and it sunk in deep. I felt my lung puncture. I feel as if I am dying – I can barely write. Quilatzli said he had a cure, and I let him… bite me. The witch doctor, my teacher, bit me and now I am dying. He did not cure me. Why is he letting me die, Lord? I have sinned, but I have repented. Is it really my time to go? Lord, have You turned Your back on me?

Unknown 1523
I am alive and well, but I have been cursed with a need of blood, which I take from animals. This demonic gift from Quilatzli haunts my dreams at night. Every time I see another of my friends, I want to bite them, to take their blood, to kill them. I refrain, I must. I cannot kill anymore. What is this curse? I hate it. But I am alive.

Unknown 1526
I have left the village for a while now. I am now in another place… and have met another Spaniard. His name is Pedro de Alvarado and he has a fleet of ships. I will be going back with him tomorrow… Back to Spain. Lord, please give me the strength not to kill. I lied, and told him I was ill, and must stay below the ship so as to not be touched by the sun. Pedro believed me for he is a gullible man. I am leaving Mexico. It is a beautiful, dangerous land, and I am going back to my homeland a changed man. I will not stay. I plan on heading to the north, to the island where there are kings, nobility, and I will stay.
